Last week we caught up with ewan smith and carol.....smyth as i call him is based in crawley which is just up the road...he has a business supplying all manner of anchor systems for use in civil engineering projects......he is originally from ranfurley and he and i used to drive  for wilsons back in the seventies.....they came over and took us out for sunday lunch....it was my job to pick the pub and unfortunately i got a bit of a roughy and learned that lots of cars in car park means good pub and the opposite for no cars....anyway we repaired back to the inglenook and all was well.....smyth is a real whiteman as he has volunteered to pick us up and take us to southampton tomorrow...
yesterday we went over to east sussex which is about 30 km away to visit colin evans....he is chairman of the southdown and eridge hunt.....i ran across him about 10 years ago when i had this bright idea that i could save foxhunting in the uk by selling them muzzles....that didnt work but hunting survived anyway and we have kept in touch ever since....in the past i have followed a couple of hunts with him also.....yesterday he took us up onto the southdowns which are low hills along that part of south coast and from where the sheeps  of that name originated ....great views over kent and east sussex....we also visited kennels....not hunting yet but 37 couples of hounds in residence (74 hounds....always counted in twos and always an odd number).......colin lives in a medieval house called dale hamme.....original bit built in 1450....doesnt have a straight angle anywhere in the old bits....photo of that later too.....next blog hopefully from grande ellade if she has internet....rh
